Skype> released a new version of the phone application for the iPhone, which adds video chat feature that goes beyond what is offered by Apple.
CNN reported the Skype application which was released Wednesday (29/12), the owners of the iPhone 3G model 4 and older can make video calls through 3G network AT & T.
Because the 3G only has one camera on the back, use it less than ideal for video chat.
Apple has its own video chat feature called FaceTime. That feature is on the iphone 4 and the new iPod Touch. Features FaceTime can not make video calls via AT & T’s network, only through WiFi.
Apple said the service asked for more time to improve their networks to handle video call traffic load.
FaceTime Mobile Users can call up a Mac that is installed Apple’s beta program, which is available on Apple’s site. The Skype application users can make calls on your Mac or Windows computer that tersinstal Skype software.
In addition to 3G video calls and voice calls, Skype can also make calls through a WiFi connection. IPAD and iPod Touch earlier models can receive calls but can not send the video because it has no camera.
According to CNN, based on testing they did, the video quality is not as sharp as FaceTime. But, unlike FaceTime, an application that recognizes when wearing a “portrait” mode or “landscape.”
CNN reported, speculation about Skype adds video feature started spreading this week. Some reports say that feature will be the focus of the company during a press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show next week.
Application Android Skype does not support video calls, but other application developers have found a solution.
