In an interview with French daily Les Echos, Paul Amsellem, head of Nokia France, said the company has a tablet that is running Windows 8 in June 2012. As is typical in this type of comment, the Nokia PR official line is “we have not announced any specific plans associated with the tablet,” but it seems more likely than not that Nokia will make Windows 8 tablets.
Nokia intends to make Windows 8 tablets is not surprising. Speaking with Bloomberg earlier this year, CEO Stephen Elop Nokia said that Windows 8 will “change the dynamic” Tablet PC market, and that there is “a new opportunity comes in tablets.” Although it has not announced plans to produce a tablet at the moment, not rule it out either.
Nokia no newcomer to the location of the tablet. Its Linux-on-ARM 770, N800, N810, and tablets to the first attempts to produce an Internet tablet type popularized by Apple again. With the survival of the tablet market has shown, the nearest Nokia partnership with Microsoft, and “new opportunities” to Windows 8, is the right time for Finland to another stab at the market with Windows 8 devices.
What is surprising is the real time. Windows 8 is a major update for the Windows platform is not even in beta, with most analysts forecast a statement of 2012. The end user availability window ‘of software generally lags behind the settlement and release to manufacturing (RTM) with a month or three. If this pattern holds, it will RTM later than March or April. This will require a very condensed beta and release candidate process, and as long as the scale of the release of Windows 8, hard to believe.
Most interviews were about the strategy of Nokia mobile phones in France and beyond. Just two years ago, Nokia commanded 25 percent of the market in France. This has now dropped to 16 percent. Samsung, with 40 percent of the market, now France’s largest mobile phone OEM. Nokia hopes to improve its position by pointing to 60 percent of French people who currently do not own a smartphone at all.
Today’s launch of the Lumia 800 is the first step in this process. Lumia Amsellem compared to the BMW 5 800, says that if Nokia will offer a lower end of the series 3 and higher-end Series 7 to complete the offer. This is equivalent to the 3 series is probably Lumia 710 that can be used in Europe later this year. Rumors of Nokia high-end offering, called “As” has been circulating for several months. Although nothing is known specifically about the specifications or features Ace, the interview is at least confirms that the high-end Windows Phone Nokia developing and rumors that Ace, at least in spirit, which is true.
Although it is too early to offer a Nokia Windows Phone, early indications are promising. WinRumors reports that Orange UK has received more pre-orders for Lumia 800 than any other Nokia devices, including major vendors such as the N95. Nokia has been advertising heavily, and Orange is offering an aggressive promotion that gives customers who qualify for the Xbox 360 update for free if for Lumia 800. Chat about AT & T took the Lumia phone for the first quarter of 2012 the U.S. launched their increase as well.
